it is summer time now, officially. the solstice hath come and gone. i really need to blog more often. I completed Driver's Ed yesterday, and have my permit to drive. i've been working at Isabels like I blogged earlier.

we have a new puppy. his name is Sparky and he's a golden lab, with more energy than a hungarian over-unity generator. pictures will follow.
I really need to get off this island, at least for a little bit. this always happens in the summer. i get really really stir-crazy. i just need to get to Bellingham/seattle and experience a little city. but it's not gonna happen anytime soon, since work is a 7-day-a-week one-hour-a-day thing.

the weather's been on crack. one day it's sunny and balmy and everyone's merry and happy and gay, and the next day it's raining pigs and elephants, it's muggy and cloudy. what the deuce. the worst part about global warming is the rain coming down from the sky. people say "oh, it's freezing! guess that disproves that!" but instead what they are experiencing is climate change. as a blogger with a readership of two, I believe it my duty to say that.

I also believe it is my duty as a blogger to be narcissistic enough to blog more and post my Twitter page on my blog so you people can revel in my narcissism. I also might post my stories here. look for that.

what am I doing? watching independence day in the rain while actually having a pretty good day, despite in-blog indicators and the weather, etc.

I am posting cat and dog pictures while listening to LCD Soundsystem and getting over bronchitus. I have a load of homework and am procrastinating. I slept in a 24' diameter tipi the night before last with 9 other people and then did a bunch of community service fixing trails at odlin state park so the ~~money~~ tourists can walk there with ease.

I made a hillbilly cake!

My dad made fresh pasta last night and I took the egg whites and made a clusterbang of a cake. It was supposed to be sponge cake, but it ended up being as thick as a Chicago pizza. When it was still warm I smeared butter on it, then squeezed half a lemon on it, then poured powdered sugar on it. It was hillbilly-licious.

I got a job at the local coffee shop as their cleaning bitch, in training to be behind the counter. Normally that wouldn't involve a lot of training, but it's a hippie coffee shop, so you have to know where everything is and how to make everything lickety-effing-split, because you're the only one on duty and the people stream in during the summer busy season. I'll come in at around 4:00 5 days a week and do stuff for about an hour at $10 an hour. It's definitely not going to be my only job (I hope), because that's just not enough dough. arrgh. I have a lot of energy to burn.

Doesn't Vox have just a smashing UI?

fuckin' a. I was just looking at some stuff on the site and was like: wow. It's well-designed. To look like every other social networking site. I wish someone would make a site based entirely on rounded cubes, circles, the golden ratio, whateve. It would take a fuckload of work, but it would look sweet.
I took a bunch of lovely ~~coconuts~~ photos today, and these two were the best. I'm having a nothing weekend, just trying to get the most out of being with my dad before I don't see him again for 3 weeks. My parents agreed that I should see the one that's not there at least once every 3 weeks. Theoretically, my dad hasn't become the weekend parent, because when my mom is off for work I'll stay with him or he'll stay with us. But my dad's work is not on lopez, ever. And my mom can usually work from home. yeah. so.
I know what you're thinking. Why does this matter? It does to me. I seriously doubt this blog will ever get famous, because I don't expose myself enough and don't whore myself enough. But I'm not sure I'd want it to be. Basically, if you get far enough down the 'long tail' of blogs, it becomes a journal that you and your friends can see. If I was applying for a high-class job though, I'd make all this jive friends-only pronto.

Consumerism and cakes

I haven't blogged for a long while. Since like last month. Well, to summarize, I went to school a lot, was sick for days this week, played sports, lived, and celebrated my mom's 47th. Which is the cakes part. I joined Facebook and Digg, but I don't know if I'll end up using them much. My dad is moving to Los Angeles. Which is a bummer and a half. But he has to work, and because the folks got divorced he doesn't necessarily have to live on Lopez anymore. I think I might work with him this summer loading cameras, etc. for about a month and end up paying off my debt to the parentals (730 bucks) that way. that would be hella good. The consumerism has to deal with the fact that my birthday is in less than a month and my computer is in its last throes. It's dying, you see. I want a 1,200-dollar iMac in its place. (or a 1,300-dollar MacBook if I'm extra-lucky.) I want to Play WoW on it. And new jeans.

But of course, the larger internet, most of which will never see this post, doesn't care.

which realm was it?

I suggest you ask around to find out if anyone you know plays WoW and then choose a realm. I made the mistake of not doing that, and now I'm stuck on Vek'Nilash while this girl I know plays Tanaris.

BTW: You don't have to pay $20 if you just make an alt on the other realm (WoW allows 7 charcters on any realms).

And, what part of WoW were you having trouble with? I used to play GW until my PC broke down. Is it the controls? the different mechanics? The PVP?

Today was the first day back at Spring Street International School (springstreet.org) after Spring break and everyone got back from their respective trips. This necessitated a 2-hour schedule fuckup, in which we "got reacquainted" (read: we sat around, sometimes talking, eating school-provided muffins) for 45 min, then heard the 11&12's talk about the stuff they did in Asia. After which was a slideshow of our Mexico trip.
For some reason, maybe pure sadism, 2cnd and 4th periods were switched around that day. This caused major confusion, with 70 kids all wandering confused around campus. Yeah.
In 4th period Spanish, (which was in he 2cnd period timeslot, why not?) We merged the two estranged groups of Spanish 1 and Spanish 2-3. This was because we had all been to Mexico for at least 3 weeks and decided to do it for the hell of it. But I think the mixing of the 3 Spanish levels won't be so bad.
Freaking busted a hole in the knee of my favorite pants today, gonna have to patch them with something trippy. Like paisley man. That some 60's shit.

The sun is out again...

I have been inside for the last two days. My dad was in Seattle for the last two days. It has been pouring rain for the last two days. For the last two days, my brother and I have been at a friend's house, which meant that I could not blog, play WoW, or Wii. Suprisingly, I survived.

On my trip to Mexico, one of our school group, a serious WoW addict, kept having withdrawals. She thought about being at home on her computer while we explored Mayan ruins, went snorkeling in the Caribbean, and ate breakfasts.
Also probably many other occasions. The only electronic thing I used on the trip was a computer, going online at an internet cafe every so often to email home and write, travel-blog-like, about my trip. Maybe I'll post the emails sometime. But the point is; I wasn't bored. People can actually live without electronic devices to entertain them. They can play cards, read a book, talk to others. (I've heard spreading vicious rumors is quite amusing. It keeps quite a few of the country gals on this island entertained.) What if you're isolated by the cold, distant life of modernity? Get on a social networking site and find your homies. Communicate with them. Then, when WoW is down for maintenance, go play cards with them. (Disclaimer: making friends online can be iffy business if you're young and naive. Play it safe if so. )

I apologize. I just inadvertently wrote a Tony Long-style luddite discourse about isolation in the modern world. And not nearly as well-informed. (the guy is probably a total nerd, yet is also a geezer about technology.) He actually makes quite a good point in the article The World? Your Oyster? Why Not?, in which he maintains that the average American is an idiot who doesn't care about the extreme volume of relevant information flooding them, and instead obsesses about sports, which I think is a bit unfair (I believe that there are plenty of smart people out there, they just are underrepresented in our culture.) But it's true. the majority of Americans need to know where Iraq is on a map.

Wow. Amazing. I just wrote a blog on the weather, then, on my blog, then on someone else's blog. Man, that is some meta shit. Peace.
